'നിയമങ്ങള്‍ അനുസരിക്കുന്ന രാജ്യമായി അമേരിക്ക നിലനില്ക്കണമെന്നാണു മിസിസ് ട്രമ്പ് ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നത്. അതേ സമയം ഹ്രുദയപൂര്‍വം ഭരിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന രാജ്യമായും തുടരണമെന്നാണു ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നത്'്-പ്രഥമ വനിതയുടെ വക്താവ് വ്യക്തമാക്കി.
പ്രസിഡന്റ് ട്രമ്പിന്റെ സീറൊ ടോളറന്‍സ് നയത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായാണു കുട്ടികളെ മാറ്റി പാര്‍പ്പിക്കുന്നത്. അഭയം തേടി വരുന്നരെ ക്യാമ്പിലേക്കയക്കും. കുട്ടികളെ ഫോസ്റ്റര്‍ കെയറിലും. 2000 കുട്ടികളെ ഒരു മാസത്തിനുള്ളില്‍ ഇങ്ങനെ മാറ്റി പാര്‍പിച്ചു. കൊച്ചു കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങള്‍ അമ്മമാരെ കാണാതെ കരയുന്ന ചിത്രങ്ങള്‍ മുഖ്യധാരാ മാധ്യമങ്ങളില്‍ വ്യാപകമായി റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട് ചെയപ്പെടുന്നു.
ഡെമോക്രാറ്റുകളാണു ഈ നിയമത്തിനുത്തരവാദി എന്നാണു ട്രമ്പ്പറയുന്നത്. പക്ഷെ ഏതു നിയമം എന്നു വ്യക്തമാക്കുന്നില്ല.
അറ്റോര്‍ണി ജനറല്‍ ജെഫ് സെഷന്‍സ് ആണു കഴിഞ്ഞ മാസം കുട്ടികളെ വെര്‍പിരിക്കുന്ന തീരുമാനം പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചത്. അഭയം തേടി ദക്ഷിണ അമേരിക്കയില്‍ നിന്നുള്ള ഒഴുക്കു തടയാന്‍ ഇതുപകരിക്കും എന്നു കരുതിയാണിത്. അതിനെ ന്യായീകരിക്കാന്‍ ബൈബിളില്‍ നിന്നു സെന്റ് പൊളിന്റെ കത്തിലെ വാചകവും സെഷന്‍സ്ഉപയോഗിച്ചു.
എന്നാല്‍ ന്യു യോര്‍ക്ക് കര്‍ദ്ദിനാള്‍ തിമത്തി ഡോളന്‍ അത് ചോദ്യം ചെയ്തു. സെന്റ് പോള്‍ ഉദ്ദേശിക്കുന്ന അര്‍ഥമല്ല സെഷന്‍സ് ഉപയോഗിച്ചതെന്നദ്ധേഹം പറഞ്ഞു. കുട്ടികളെ വേര്‍പിരിക്കുന്നത് അധാര്‍മ്മികവും ദൈവിക നിയമങ്ങളുടെ ലംഘനവും ആണെന്ന് കര്‍ദ്ദിനാള്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.
ഏതായാലും ഫസ്റ്റ് ലേഡി പറയുന്നതിനു വല്ല വിലയുമുണ്ടോ എന്ന് ഉടനെ അറിയാം.
Melania calls for end to Trump's family separation policy
Washington, June 18 (IANS) US First Lady Melania Trump has called for an end to the policy of separating parents and children illegally entering the country from Mexico.
"Mrs Trump believes we need to be a country that follows all laws, but also a country that governs with heart," her spokeswoman said.
Her comments follow growing controversy over President Donald Trump's "zero-tolerance" policy, a BBC report said.
In a recent six-week period there were nearly 2,000 family separations.
Adults who try to cross the border, many planning to seek asylum, are placed in custody and face criminal prosecution for illegal entry.
As a result, hundreds of minors are now being housed in detention centres, and kept away from their parents - a policy which rights groups have criticised as unprecedented.
In her rare intervention, Melania Trump said she "hates to see children separated from their families and hopes both sides of the aisle [Republicans and Democrats in Congress] can finally come together to achieve successful immigration reform".
The President has blamed a law "Democrats gave us" for the policy, but it is unclear what law he is referring to.
In a tweet on Saturday, Trump urged Democrats to work with Republicans to create new laws: "Democrats can fix their forced family breakup at the Border by working with Republicans on new legislation, for a change! This is why we need more Republicans elected in November. Democrats are good at only three things, High Taxes, High Crime and Obstruction. Sad!"
However, critics have pointed out that detaining children apart from their parents was a policy announced by US Attorney General Jeff Sessions last month and does not require congressional action to stop.
The policy has divided Republicans, with its defenders pointing out that children are routinely taken from parents accused of crimes.
The additional child detentions - reportedly including babies and toddlers - have resulted in some shelters and foster homes reporting that they are running out of space.
On Sunday, Democratic members of Congress paid a "surprise Father's Day visit" to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention centre in New Jersey, demanding to see detainees separated from their children.

“In fact, there is no law that requires families to be separated at the border. There is a law against ‘improper entry’ at the border, as well as a consent decree known as the Flores settlement that limits to 20 days the amount of time that migrant children may be held in immigration detention, which a federal judge ruled in 2016 also applies to families. A 2008 antitrafficking statute — signed into law by a Republican president, George W. Bush — also requires that certain unaccompanied alien minors be transferred out of immigration detention in 72 hours. None of those laws or precedents mean that children must be taken away from their parents.
“It is the Trump administration’s decision this year to prosecute all unlawful immigrants as criminals that has forced the breakup of families; the children are removed when the parents are taken into federal custody. While previous administrations have made exceptions to such prosecutions for adults traveling with their minor children, the Trump administration has said it will not do so.”
Trump is lying, as he often does. This barbaric policy is an outgrowth of his own personal cruelty. It’s absolutely reprehensible and an absolute reflection of him.

American Psychological Association put it:
“The administration’s policy of separating children from their families as they attempt to cross into the United States without documentation is not only needless and cruel, it threatens the mental and physical health of both the children and their caregivers. Psychological research shows that immigrants experience unique stress related to the conditions that led them to flee their home countries in the first place. The longer that children and parents are separated, the greater the reported symptoms of anxiety and depression for the children. Negative outcomes for children include psychological distress, academic difficulties and disruptions in their development.”
I don’t have a long treatise to issue here, no meandering argument. I am simply outraged beyond my ability to articulate it.
This practice of family separation must end, and Trump and every other politician who was silent about it or worse, endorsed it, must be held to account at the ballot box.
WhiteHouse aide Stephen Miller to NYT: “It was a simple decision by the administration to have a zero tolerance policy for illegal entry, period. The message is that no one is exempt from immigration law.”
