Obituary by Dr. MP Ravindra Nathan
AKMG is truly saddened and shocked by the passing of Dr Prathap Chandran, a distinguished past president and long time supporter of AKMG. ‘Prathapan’ and his lovely wife Rita, a cheerful, friendly and highly respected duo, was a constant presence in all our AKMG Conventions. He was also an outstanding cardiologist and electrophysiologist, highly regarded for his professional skills in his community.
A quintessential gentleman, Prathapan was always ready to go the extra mile to
help and support others. I had an opportunity to work closely with him when we
were editing “AKMG Archives,” an elegant coffee table volume, a tome, that AKMG
could be proud of. He would do a lot of fact checking and research and gave me
plenty of helpful points and suggestions that contributed to the success of
this ambitious production. Such was Prathapan’s earnestness and commitment when
given an assignment. Prathapan was also responsible for re-editing and
consolidating our current by-laws and saved AKMG a lot of legal expenses.
Prathapan showed his true leadership skills during the 2007 AKMG Convention in
Although stricken with a serious illness a few years ago, Prathapan never even
once lamented his fate; instead he accepted the situation, reconciled with it and
proceeded to get the best treatment and continued in his path of “karma yogi.”
He didn’t let the illness dampen his enthusiasm or cut down his humanitarian
activities. As a person Prathapan always reflected his strict upbringing, being
righteous and moral to a fault. He was a loving husband to his wife Rita, a
devoted father to his children Gayatri and Praveen and a doting grandfather.
His grandchildren were the love of his life and he and Rita would frequently
travel to be with them.
AKMG sends its heartfelt condolences to Rita and all other family members and
pray his soul rest in eternal peace. AKMG will miss him greatly. And may the Lord
give Rita and the family to bear this loss.
