Dear Saji: First, let me express my deepest heart-felt condolences to Sajan's bereaving family.I fully understand the hardships they had to go thru to bid their last farewell to their loved one. But, we should understand that the times are tough and the rules are implemented very strictly, especially for travelers coming to India from foreign countries, regardless of their nationality, or their needs, even if it is heartbreaking. Even in a normal situation, sometimes travelling to India become a hassle due to some arrogance of some officials. Hundreds of dead bodies are kept in Gulf countries, waiting to get permission to bring them to India. God knows when. I wish Sajan's family could see his body somehow without breaking the quarantine rules. To me, even though it sounds rude and harsh, bringing a body back to the U.S. is more complicated. Not only the immediate family, but their close ones also has to go through a lot of anxiety, stress and hardships - let alone the uncertainty of the existing law of the two countries involved. As you are aware the air travel is closed now, and God knows will it will re-open. Saji, since I know you personally for many years, I know you have only good intentions;but for all the practical purposes it is better to bury them at their mother church. The families can visit the tomb and offer their prayers, when the times get better. This comment is not intended to hurt anybody's feelings; but it was a thought that went thru my mind. Again, with prayers and condolences.... Raju Mylapra.
