ന്യു യോര്‍ക്ക്: സിറ്റി പബ്ലിക്ക് അഡ്വക്കറ്റായി മല്‍സരിക്കുന്ന ഡോ. ദേവി നമ്പ്യാപറമ്പിലും എതിരാളിയും നിലവിലുള്ള പബ്ലിക്ക് അഡ്വക്കറ്റുമായ ജുമാനി വില്യംസും തമ്മിലുള്ള ഇലക്ഷന്‍ ഡിബേറ്റ് ഇന്ന് (ഒക്‌റ്റോബര്‍ 19-  ചൊവ്വ) വൈകിട്ട് 7 മുതല്‍ 8 വരെ നടക്കും .

ഇരുവരും തമ്മില്‍ ഒരു ഡിബേറ്റാണുള്ളത്. മേയര്‍ സ്ഥാനാര്‍ഥികള്‍ തമ്മില്‍ രണ്ടു ഡിബേറ്റുണ്ട്-നാളെയും (ബുധൻ) ഈ മാസം 26 -നും.  മറ്റു സ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലേക്കൊന്നും ഡിബേറ്റ് ഇല്ല.

ഇതേ സമയം, ഗോഥം  ഗസറ്റിന്റെ എക്സിക്യൂട്ടിവ്‌ എഡിറ്റർ ബെൻ മാക്സ് നാല് സ്ഥാനാർത്ഥികളുമായി നടത്തിയ ഡിബേറ്റിൽ ഡോ. ദേവി മികച്ച പ്രകടനം കാഴ്ച വച്ചു. ഡമോക്രാറ്റിക് എതിർരാളിയും ഇപ്പോഴത്തെ പബ്ലിക്ക് അഡ്വക്കറ്റുമായ ജുമാനി വില്യംസിന് പുറമെ ചെറു പാര്ടികളുടെ  രണ്ട് സ്ഥാനാർത്ഥികളും ഡിബേറ്റിനുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ ചൊവ്വാഴ്ചത്തെ ഡിബേറ്റിനു ജുമാണി  വില്യംസും ഡോ. ദേവിയും മാത്രമാണ് അർഹത നേടിയത്.

സിറ്റിയിലെ സാധാരണ ജനം ദുരിതത്തിലാണെന്നും അതിനു മുഖ്യകാരണം ഇപ്പോഴത്തെ ഭരണകൂടമാണെന്നും ഡോ. ദേവി തുടക്കത്തിലേ പറഞ്ഞു. റിപ്പബ്ലിക്കൻ സ്ഥാനാർത്ഥി  എന്ന നിലയിൽ മാറ്റങ്ങൾക്കു പ്രവർത്തിക്കും. ഇപ്പോൾ രാഷ്ട്രീയക്കാർ പറയുന്നത് ജനം കേൾക്കുക എന്ന സ്ഥിതിയാണ്. അതിനു പകരം ജനങ്ങൾ പറയുന്നത് രാഷ്ട്രീയക്കാർ കേൾക്കുന്ന അവസ്ഥ താൻ ലക്ഷ്യമിടുന്നു.  ഡോക്ടർ എന്ന നിലയിൽ ജനങ്ങൾക്കായി ചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങനയും അവർ ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടി.

ജീവിതത്തിൽ എക്കാലത്തും താൻ പൊതുജന സേവകനായിരുന്നു എന്ന ജുമാനിവില്യംസ് പറഞ്ഞു.   

സാധാരണ മേയര്‍ ഒഴിച്ചുള്ള തസ്തികകള്‍ക്ക് ഡിബേറ്റ് ഉണ്ടാവാറില്ല. ആളുകള്‍ പാര്‍ട്ടി അടിസ്ഥാനത്തില്‍ വോട്ട് ചെയ്യും. ഡിബേറ്റ് ഉണ്ടാവുമ്പോള്‍ സ്ഥാനാര്‍ഥിയുടെ മികവ് നോക്കി വോട്ട് ചെയ്യാന്‍ സാഹചര്യമൊരുങ്ങും.
